Is Surat Thani just a place to pass through on the way to somewhere else. Like Koh Samui for example? It basically says that there isn't much to do in Suratthani, though the last one I read is grossly outdated. This was our first time in Surat Thani, on our way to Koh Samui. The hotel is situated a bit on the outskirts of the city, but still in an area with lots of shops and restaurants. Most of the restaurants open late afternoon and are very reasonble priced, offer delicious Thai food.
The cheapest time to visit Surat Thani is during the rainy season which generally begins towards the end of July and ends in the middle of October. This is known in Thailand as the low season when accommodation is much more affordable, deals on cheap flights are available and there are less tourists around. For uninterrupted sunshine, clear blue skies and calm seas, the best time to visit Thailand is from November through to April.
